Minions of the Darkness

As of the Beta, we know that Destiny will feature four enemy species: the Fallen, Hive, Cabal and Vex. This article will discuss each enemy in-depth, as well as speculate on a type of enemy that may or may not exist. [divider]

[divider] Could the Fallen, Hive, Cabal, or Vex be considered the minions of the Darkness? Does the Darkness completely consume them and morph them into something even more sinister? Or are these minions something completely different?

Little is known about the Darkness, besides that it’s an ancient & mysterious enemy of The Traveler. It was primarily responsible for the Collapse, the cataclysmic event that ended humanity’s Golden Age.

The Dark Below DLC will most likely be our key to learning more about the Darkness. In The Dark Below, we’ll discover an ancient tomb has been unsealed. Beneath the surface of the Moon, a dark god has answered centuries of prayer, and a dark army has risen.

In the Exotic Helm of Saint-14, it has a perk entitled ‘Inverse Shadow’ that specifically mentions the minions.

In another perk in the same piece of armor, it doesn’t specify minions, and simply refers to “enemies.”

One would think that due to the specific mention of “minions of the Darkness” in the Inverse Shadow perk, you can’t simply kill just any enemy and receive its benefits. Though perhaps this is another way of saying that this perk can’t be used while in the Crucible?

Official information about the Darkness is very limited, and will likely stay that way until we get our hands on the game. In these early pieces of concept art, we can see what appears to be Darkness controlled ships as well as enemies being ‘influenced’ by the Darkness. You’ll notice that in both of these images, shadows and dark luminous clouds are abundant. In space of course there aren’t any clouds, so we can only assume that they’re there because of these ship-looking structures.

Of course there’s also the Dragon Slayer achievement, which is earned by defeating a Champion (not a minion). There’s been a lot of speculation about this achievement in particular, some of which you can read about here.

There are still many mysteries of Destiny, some we don’t even know about yet! Unfortunately it looks like we’ll have to wait until 9/9 before they’re solved.
