Welcome back, Guardians! This weekend, our favorite Exotic merchant has arrived on Io, on top of a cave near the Giant’s Scar area. What goods has he brought today? Read on
This week, for 29 Legendary Shards, Xur carries:
Crimson
Do you like Exotic Hand Cannons, but don’t feel like playing with The Last Word or Thorn? Do you have some Destiny 1 nostalgia, like the author of this post? Do you like profiting from other people’s suffering? If any of your answers were “Yes,” allow me to introduce Crimson.
Crimson is an Exotic Kinetic Hand Cannon with a couple of very fun twists. First, according to the Vanguard and its first unique perk, Crimson is a Banned Weapon, firing a 3-round burst instead of the usual snappy Hand Cannon shot. Second, Crimson carries the Cruel Remedy Exotic Perk, healing the wielder on kills and refilling the magazine on precision kills. This formula worked out well for a Pulse Rifle years ago in Destiny 1; I can’t imagine it’s bad on a Hand Cannon here. Pick it up if you can.
And for 23 Legendary Shards, Xur offers:
Starfire Protocol
What a cool name for such a meh Warlock chest piece. The Starfire Protocol allows Dawnblade Warlocks to have another Fusion Grenade and get Rift energy on Fusion Grenade kills with its intrinsic Fusion Harness perk. Cool if you like Dawnblades or Fusion Grenades, I suppose, but that’s a small niche.
The Dragon’s Shadow
The Dragon’s Shadow is a neat PvP Exotic for Hunters. Its Wraithmetal Mail perk reloads your guns on a dodge, and gives some extra movement and handling speed once you’re out of the roll. Not bad by any means, but Hunters definitely aren’t hurting for PvP Exotics.
Mk. 44 Stand Asides
“Pardon me, coming through,” says the flavor text on these Exotic Titan legs. You’d be wise to heed that warning; the Stand Asides are a force to be reckoned with. At full health and when sprinting, the Exotic perk Seriously, Watch Out triggers, giving an overshield while sprinting and plenty of melee energy on a successful melee ability hit. If you want to be the scourge of PvP, these are the boots for you.
Xur also carries an Exotic Engram, providing a random piece of Exotic armor for 97 Legendary Shards, the Five of Swords for Nightfalls, and The Invitation of the Nine for 9 Legendary Shards, if you haven’t completed that quest yet.
Xur has been mixing it up lately, showing us newer goodies like Red Death Crimson while keeping some of the goods like the Stand Asides on rotation so people keep having access to them. I’m not the biggest fan of The Dragon’s Shadow or Starfire Protocol, but somebody else is, and that’s what matters.
See you next week, Guardians. Until then, I’m going to go pretend a Hand Cannon is my old favorite Pulse Rifle.
