Through heavy investigation into early players already in the Destiny world, along with the API, it looks like the following Crucible change has been made:

Pre-level 5 Crucible

  • Players can participate in the Crucible without having to achieve level 5 first
  • They will be restricted to a mode that only contains other players not at level 5 yet
  • This “PvP Introduction” mode is disabled once the player is eligible to play in regular Crucible modes (5+)

launchUpdate: As of now, the name of this mode is Launch Celebration. An off the record Bungie employee has let us know that this playlist may or may not be available for the public in the future, but was available for Bungie employees during the time when the game was launched.

How it Works

Most of this information is still valid, but see the update above.

Instead of needing to level up in PvE to play in the Crucible, now you’re going to be able to play immediately. This playlist will not allow heavy weapons or Supers to be used. This playlist is only available to Guardians who are level 1, 2, 3 or 4.

Once you reach level 5, the mode will no longer be playable; it’s sort of a beginner’s version of the Crucible, and will allow people who wish to play nothing but PvP to do so, while also reducing the confusion about how to enter the Crucible.

[divider] There also appears to be a new Crucible mode called “Doubles Play” which is for 2v2!

New Monarchy seeks those capable of reclaiming the frontier, one battle at a time. Small team tactics. Kill the enemy. Revive teammates.”
