Armsday Roll Recommendations

Contributing Author: Alex R.

#1 or 3 – Kumakatok HC4

  1. Third Eye | Quickdraw/Rifled Barrel | Firefly/Danger Close
  2. Third Eye | Oiled Frame | Outlaw
  3. Third Eye | Single Point Sling | Underdog

This is about as good as it gets! While each roll this week has something to offer, this is the most well rounded roll. Rifled Barrel adds much needed range to the party, and Sureshot IS adds a notable amount of aim assistance. Firefly is the main attraction for PvE players, while Third Eye can save you in both PvE and PvP. There are better rolls out there (Luck in the Chamber would be on the wish list), but overall this is a great roll.

#1 or 2 – Tuonela SR4

  • Life Support, Extended Mag, Exhumed
  • Triple Tap, Single-Point Sling, Firefly

This is basically the Tuonela’s take on the “Hung Jury Roll” that we all became familiar with from the beginning of The Taken King. Triple Tap and Firefly are the gold standards of PvE perks. Firefly will add some AoE to your kit while Triple Tap can help against ammo shortages. Don’t go for Feather Mag; this clip size is low enough at 13!

#2 or 3 – SUROS PDX-41

  • Hammer Forged, Headseeker, Snapshot
  • Fitted Stock, Hidden Hand, Rifled Barrel

Imagine what this gun can become! With the added stability of Fitted Stock, the huge bonus to range from Rifled Barrel and the aim assistance from Hidden Hand, you’ve got a beast of a pulse rifle to bring into the Crucible. This would be great for picking off targets from a distance, and it would pair great with a Shotgun or Sidearm in PvP.

#1 – SUROS PDX-45

  • Perfect Balance, Full Auto, Hand-Laid Stock

This is about as good as it gets for both PvE and PvP. Give your trigger finger a rest with full auto and your aiming hand a rest with both Perfect Balance and Hand-Laid Stock. What about range? We think this gun will be fine as it is, including in PvP. While Full Auto can’t beat something like Counterbalance or Hidden Hand in PvP, it still helps you free up some mental real estate by focusing on aiming rather than pulling the trigger.

Any – Eirene RR4

  1. Outlaw – Quickdraw/Reinforced Barrel – Unflinching/Last Resort
  2. Triple Tap – High Caliber Rounds/Hand-Laid Stock – Battle Runner/Underdog
  3. Army of One – High Caliber Rounds/Casket Mag – Replenish/Last Resort

The Eirene has a diverse perk pool, and this week we’re going to try out this roll for PvE. The main attraction here is actually the low-zoom Faucon SS1 scope, but don’t sleep on Triple Tap or Battle Runner. Triple Tap will reward you for focusing DPS on a boss in a strike, and if the going gets tough, pick off a lesser enemy to get away with Battle Runner! If you aren’t down with this strategy, Underdog helps for most other situations.

Notable Rolls from Other Weapons

#2 – Arminius-D

  • Relentless Tracker – Counterbalance – Single Point Sling/Hand Loaded/Smallbore

SC Holo not only improves your already significant Aim Assist, it also gives you one of the best views over the muzzle flash of this auto rifle. Counterbalance and Smallbore do a solid job of managing your recoil, and Relentless Tracker ain’t terrible. I’d give this roll a solid B+/A- rating. If you have a package you want to be done holding, use it now.

#1 – DIS-43

  • High Caliber Rounds/Appended Magazine – Unflinching – Snapshot/Injection Mold

Your choice of HCR or more rounds in the mag, plus Unflinching and Injection Mold make this a decent, if not outstanding Scout Rifle.

#3 – DIS-47

  • Fitted Stock/Feather Mag | Full Auto | Single Point Sling/Smallbore

So this is a pretty easy call, although it could be better. Grab roll 3 if you’ve been looking for a solid Full Auto drop – you’ll clear 60 Range and 70 Stability, easy. Roll 1’s Counterbalance is actually great here, except that you need a solid Stability bump to bring down the vertical recoil, and Fitted Stock ain’t it.

#2 – Judith-D

  • Army of One, Reactive Reload, Snapshot / Explosive Rounds / Reinforced Barrel

I’m loving the Explosive Rounds on these rolls, but if you want to take this bad girl into IB and 2-tap some low light Guardians, I recommend numero dos. If you can use Reactive Reload effectively, you might even double tap some Guardians your own size, too!

#1 or 3 – Zarinaea-D

  • Crowd Control | Counterbalance | Single Point Sling/Fitted Stock/Smallbore
  • Partial Refund | Persistence | High Caliber Rounds/Fitted Stock/Braced Frame

Ach, how do I choose? On the one hand, pure vertical recoil and bonus damage on follow-up kills make Roll 1 perfect for 6’s. And yet, on the other hand, a ranged scope plus near-perfect Stability and Aim Assist makes Roll 3 a no-brainer as well… Good luck deciding, Guardians – I can’t!

#1 or 3 – ARI-41

  • Perfect Balance/Appended Magazine | Speed Reload/Reinforced Barrel | Take A Knee
  •  Hammer Forged/Oiled Frame | Speed Reload/Rifled Barrel | Take A Knee

You could really go either way here, but ultimately 3 is my pick. That said, Perfect Balance / Rifled Barrel would be much better than either of these, so there’s room for improvement if you have the patience.

#2 – Lyudmila-D

  • Crowd Control – Counterbalance – single point sling / hand loaded / hand laid stock

Well, this is the god roll, hands down, no questions asked. If you’ve been waiting for a Lyudmila, DO NOT MISS OUT! Otherwise, carry on, citizens.

Next Week’s Orders

Weapon Type Impact Notable Stat
Arminius-D Auto Rifle Lowest AA (80)
Gaheris-D Hand Cannon Medium AA (80)
Judith-D Hand Cannon Highest AA (60)
Uffern HC4 Hand Cannon Medium-High Stability (70)
Uzume RR4 Sniper Rifle Medium Reload (75)

Arminius-D

Rating: A

A member of one of the most lethal archetypes in the game, the Arminius’ only failing is pretty significant muzzle flash that a lot of people struggle with. If you’ve never used a max RoF auto rifle before, you probably won’t find it to be a big deal, but if you’re considering a switch from Doctrine of Passing, you might feel like you’re going completely blind. Either way, this gun is super lethal and very easy to use with the right Counterbalance + Stability roll.

Gaheris-D

Rating: A

Overall, the Gaheris-D has decent stats and some of the highest Aim Assist available on a Hand Cannon, so it’s a decent choice if you’re looking for an intro to the world of 6-guns (7-guns?). Despite massive Aim Assist, something about it has never felt quite right to me, but don’t let that hold you back – this is the week to try a new hand cannon and learn something deep about yourself as a human being. You can knock one of those out right here.

Judith-D

Rating: B

The slowest-firing but hardest-hitting legendary hand cannon in the game, this is a great Iron Banner weapon for high light players, as you can two-shot lower light players with no active damage bonuses. You can actually two-shot even high armor Guardians if you can get the shots off inside a damage bonus – and you have a few to choose from on the perk tables. The gun can also roll with Explosive Rounds, which I would strongly recommend.

Uffern HC4

Rating: A

Maybe it’s the excellent Stability – maybe it’s born with it. The Uffern has a unique feel that has always seemed just right to me; they nailed the laser pistol feel, I think, and I just want to say, “Pew, pew, pew”  as I pull the trigger. Anyway, it has solid stats and a limited but functional perk table including Luck in the Chamber.  Probably my favorite of the three hand cannons available in terms of feel.

Uzume RR4

Rating: C

The less good Y2 Praedyth’s Re-wannabe of Armsday, this sniper can’t one-shot through revive-overshields or take down most supers without multiple shots (including a headshot). It does have the potential to roll with moderately high Stability, which can be nice on a lower recoil, very low Aim Assist sniper. It’s not for most people though.
