Armsday Roll Recommendations

Contributing Author: Alex R.

#2 – Hakke Arminius-D

  1. Partial Refund – Glass Half Full – Snapshot/Fitted Stock/Smallbore
  2. Army of One – Spray & Play – High Caliber Rounds/Hand Loaded/Rifled Barrel
  3. Crowd Control – Focused Fire – High Caliber Rounds/Fitted Stock/Rifled Barrel

No, this is not the PvP melting machine you were looking for. However, this is a great roll if you like roasting ads in PvE, as Army of one and Spray and Play will work wonders for taking out the trash. Get your grenades back quickly and spend your whole clip for an increased reload speed! Hand-Loaded provides a bit of needed range while maintaining the rest of the gun’s stats.

#1 – Hakke Gaheris-D

  1. Army of One – Outlaw – Speed Reload/High Caliber/Reinforced Barrel
  2. Last resort – Rangefinder – Speed Reload/High Caliber/Smallbore
  3. Danger close – Outlaw – Speed Reload/High Caliber/Reinforced Barrel

Praise the Gunsmith! We’ve found ourselves an amazing Hand Cannon. Outlaw is one of the best reload enhancing perks out there and Army of One is the best way to reset your cooldowns quickly. Combine these with the range bonus of Reinforced Barrel and you’re left with a Hand Cannon that can dominate in both PvE and PvP! We’re very happy to see this roll on tap this week and heavily recommend it.

None – Hakke Judith-D

  1. Army of One – Rangefinder – Speed Reload/Armor Piercing Rounds/Oiled Frame
  2. Relentless Tracker – Outlaw – Speed Reload/Armor Piercing Rounds/Reinforced Barrel
  3. Danger Close – Rangefinder – Speed Reload/Explosive Rounds/Oiled Frame

We’re not seeing any perfect rolls this week, and we’d recommend you wait until the Gunsmith offers us something that can be clearly defined as a PvE or PvP roll. To this end, look for a combination of range boosts and Hot Swap for PvP or Outlaw and Army of One for PvE.

#3 – OMOLON Uffern HC4

  1. LiTC – Quickdraw/Braced Frame – Rescue Mag/Danger Close
  2. Mulligan – Snapshot/Injection Mold – Outlaw/EotS
  3. Mulligan – Lightweight/Reinforced Barrel – Firefly/EotS

This is a moderately good PvE roll, but if you’re looking for a PvP Hand Cannon you’ll need to wait until next week. Mulligan and Firefly are always handy in strikes and potentially in raids, while Reinforced Barrel provides the range necessary to make Omolon Hand Cannons any good. Overall, we’d take this in a pinch while hoping for something better in the future.

None – OMOLON UZUME RR4

  1. Outlaw – Lightweight / Oiled Frame – Replenish / Exhumed
  2. Performance Bonus – Lightweight / Casket Mag – Battle Runner / Shoot to Loot
  3. Performance Bonus – Lightweight / Injection Mold – Replenish – Exhumed

We don’t expect too much from the Uzume’s perk pool, but we’re still not happy with the results this week. We’re going to recommend you wait until next week if you want a good roll on this Sniper Rifle. There are some good parts to each roll this week, but a few poor perks ruin the fun. We’ll be looking for Triple Tap, Injection Mold and Clown Cartridge for a PvE beast.

Other Notable Rolls

PDX-45: Pass on Roll 1

  • PB/Oiled Frame – Unflinching – Lightweight/Reinforced Barrel

Roll 1 is so close to being good! But for me, Reinforced Barrel just kills it. The gun is very stable, but I do want a touch more even so. Perfect Balance would have done just fine if not for Reinforced Barrel cancelling it out. Sad day all around!

Cocytus SR4: Roll 2 the First

  • Triple Tap – Extended Mag/Smallbore – Firefly/Eye of the Storm

This is a perfect PVE roll! Tons of ammo plus Firefly means you can melt adds all day long and put a hurting on majors and ultras, too! If you’re feeling adventurous, you could even swap to Smallbore / Eye of the Storm for some Crucible play, though it’s not exactly ideal for that.

DIS-43: Roll 2 Honorable Mention

  •  Perfect Balance/Oiled Frame – Luck in the Chamber – Snapshot/Reinforced Barrel

I’m not really advocating buying this roll, but I wanted to take the chance to point out that Luck in the Chamber allows this gun to clear 200 damage with 3 headshots. If you can get the magazine down to minimum size with Feather Mag and Smallbore, and fire the first few rounds to work your odds, you have a fair chance of making it a randomly faster Cocytus. Just saying!

PDX-41: Roll 2 Once More

  • Fitted Stock/Oiled Frame – Unflinching – Single Point Sling/Rifled Barrel

Around 80 Stability, Unflinching, and your choice of 70-odd Range or faster swapping and strafing, this is a very functional and solid roll. Yes, Perfect Balance would be better. So would Hidden Hand. I’d even prefer Smallbore to max out the Stability. But what’re ya gonna do with another average Roll 2?

JLB-47: Not Another Roll 2

  • Heavy Payload/Flared Magwell – Tracking – Perfect Balance/Quickdraw

Tracking is a pretty solid roll, and it’s combined with Heavy Payload, so there’s that. I guess Quickdraw for the final perk, and good luck! That’s a Roll 2 for ya!

Aoife Rua-D: Roll 2 for PVP

  • Unflinching – Performance Bonus – HCR / Snapshot / Injection Mold

Raptor checks in with pretty low zoom (5.15x, I think), and then you have Unflinching, Performance Bonus, and Snapshot to make a pretty decent PVP sniper. If you like, Injection Mold even does a bit for handling, and provides a nice bump to Stability to make this a shorter range combat sniper. Decent, but not great this week.

ARI-41: Roll 2 for Assists

  • Fitted Stock/Oiled Frame – Snapshot/Smallbore – Partial Refund

Rounding out our trend of functional but unimpressive Roll 2’s this week, we have this one, with Fitted Stock and Smallbore pushing up Range and Stability to make a pretty easy to use Assist Rifle (because it has Partial Refund, get it?). Nothing superb, but solid and competently rolled if you’re looking for a weapon this week.

Next Week’s Orders

Weapon Type Impact Notable Stat
SUROS ARI-41 Auto Rifle Medium AA (72)
Hakke Herja-D Pulse Rifle Medium Stability (72)
Lyudmila-D Pulse Rifle High Range (63)
Jingukogo-D Shotgun Medium Stability (56)
Tamar-D Sniper Rifle Medium Reload (66)

SUROS ARI-41

This is another Monte Carlo style auto rifle coming in at a whopping 68 base stability. Its range is about as low as we’ve seen at 17 though, so this gun will absolutely depend on range perks to have any use outside of close range PvP. Other than that, it has high Aim Assistance (72) and decent reload speed (54), so we’ll be keeping a close eye on the rolls next week.

The best thing about this gun is that it’s extremely easy to use, and surprisingly adaptable in short to mid range. Unfortunately, despite a competent optimal time-to-kill of .9s, it probably clocks in close to 1 second or above in the field. For a gun that requires you to stand exposed and track a target that whole time, that’s mighty steep, which is why the B rating. That aside, this is a great gun for newer players and those just getting started in the crucible, thanks to the low learning curve, and it does well in PVE, too.

Herja-D

The Herja-D has the impact archetype of the Vanguard’s Apple of Discord. It comes in with a fantastic 72 stability and 68 reload speed, so next week, we’ll be looking for Counterbalance to correct the awkward Hakke recoil pattern and more stability to make it a laser in PvE and PvP.

Slower 4 round bursts and steep recoil make this gun relatively weak compared to others in its already mediocre archetype. I don’t rate guns lower than C, but this might be a C-. Unless you’re a major collector, there’s no reason to buy this package.

Lyudmila-D

With a solid roll, this gun can still do some work in PvP as a legendary primary. It has base range of 63 and stability of 54, so we’ll want to preserve the range while increasing stability to laser-like levels, and a reload perk like Feeding Frenzy would be icing on the cake. Counterbalance is going to be the key, as Hakke Pulse Rifles have an awkward recoil pattern that needs to be corrected for maximum accuracy.

Despite the potential for a very fast 2 burst kill, this gun is just about unusable without a perfect roll, and terribly unforgiving even then. I’m a big fan of pulse rifles, so I’m trying hard to find a reason to use it – I’ll get back to you when I do!

Jingukogo-D

Despite being named differently than the Strongbow-D Shotgun, the Jingukogo-D is the exact same as the Strongbow-D besides having 2 more reload speed. Talk about variety. Basically, this shotgun is a low-impact, high rate of fire archetype that won’t be preferred in PvP but can work in PvE. We’ll look to see if there are any interesting rolls next week regardless, as certain perks like Spray and Play can make shotguns much more viable in PvE.

The worst of the Hakke guns are all available this week it seems – salt in the wound after the weekly packages! This gun isn’t terrible stat-wise, except for one thing: it only has 3 rounds in the mag. Otherwise, it’s identical to the Strongbow-D, a very decent Armsday shotgun. If I ever get to talk to anyone from Bungie about Armsday, this is one gun I would have to what they had in mind when they designed.

Tamar-D

This is a solid sniper rifle in the high/mid Impact archetype (Sniper Rifle archetypes are confusing, I know), and worth picking up if you’re interesting in trying that group of snipers out. Notable other members of the same group include Antimony from new Monarchy, and Defiance of Yasmin from King’s Fall (which is the best of the bunch), but this is a good place to see if you’ll like them. The Tamar-D can be purpose built for either PVE or PVP content, and the perks don’t translate to the other side well, so buy 2 packages if you want to use it in both.
