5 Rare Weapons You Should Try

Ever since I started my second account and re-leveled a character, I thought it would be cool to look at some Rare weapons that might be interesting or fun to use, so here are a few of them.

These guns could be fun to use in non-sweaty PvP, possibly to test out a new weapon archetype before grinding or spending the marks to get a Legendary version, or just to shake things up a bit and try something different.

Scout Rifles

High-Impact

Trax Devotio III

  • Pros – Very high Range.
  • Cons – Very low Stability and Aim Assist. Average Reload Speed. Low Mag Size.
  • Time-to-Kill: 0.80s (3 crit shots)

Recommended Perks:

  • Column 1 – Reflex, OEG Riflescope
  • Column 2 – Zen Moment, Outlaw, Life Support, Crowd Control
  • Column 3 – Hand-laid Stock, Injection Mold, Braced Frame, Explosive Rounds, Fitted Stock

Not the best of the high impact scout rifles, but a good substitute if you haven’t gotten any good ones yet. Try to shoot for the Reflex sight for the boost to Aim Assist, and Zen Moment and Hand-laid Stock to help out with Stability.

Low Mid-Impact

Lampad SR4

  • Pros – Above average Reload Speed and Aim Assist.
  • Cons – Very low Range and Mag Size. Average Stability.
  • Time-to-Kill: 0.90s (3 crit shots and 1 body shot), 1.60s (6 body shots)

Recommended Perks:

  • Column 1 – Reflex, OEG Riflescope
  • Column 2 – Outlaw, Zen Moment, Life Support, Crowd Control
  • Column 3 – Extended Mag, Hand-laid Stock, Injection Mold, Lightweight, Single Point Sling

The only other example of the MIDA archetype of scout rifles that came with the Taken King, the Lampad is an interesting weapon. With quite possibly the worst Mag Size of all scout rifles, Outlaw and Extended Mag are almost necessary perks. In return, you’re rewarded with above average aim assist, and a decent (and very easy to achieve) optimal time-to-kill of 0.90s. Reflex further supports the aim assist, and helps to make the gun surprisingly interesting in PvP.

Low-Impact

SUROS SCO-43

  • Pros – Very high Stability and Mag Size.
  • Cons – Very low Range. Low Reload Speed. Average Aim Assist. High number of shots needed to kill.
  • Time-to-Kill: 0.93s (4 crit shots and 1 body shot)

Recommended Perks:

  • Column 1 – Your choice of sight
  • Column 2 – Full Auto
  • Column 3 – High Caliber Rounds, Fitted Stock

Basically the Rare little brother to the SUROS DIS-47, the SCO-43 benefits from the same Full Auto build. However, thanks to very high base Stability, I actually advocate the use of High Caliber Rounds, if you’re lucky enough to get them. The rapid firing scout can provide some seriously disorienting flinch to opponents, and is one of my favorite archetypes of weapons to use outside of highly competitive PvP. Unfortunately it doesn’t come with my favorite SUROS sight, the SPO-28, but any of the sights that you like will do.

Pulse Rifles

Very Low-Impact

Psi Alba IV

  • Pros – Above average Mag Size and Aim Assist.
  • Cons – Very low Range and Reload Speed. Low Stability.
  • Time-to-Kill: 0.77s (3 bursts. 7 crit shots and 2 body shots.)

Recommended Perks:

  • Column 1 – Reflex, OEG Riflescope
  • Column 2 – Counterbalance, Rangefinder, Hidden Hand, Headseeker, Outlaw, Life Support
  • Column 3 – Smallbore, Braced Frame, Fitted Stock, Hand Loaded

If you weren’t lucky enough to pick up a well-rolled Grasp of Malok during the Nightfall a few weeks ago, you might have a better shot at getting the Psi Alba IV. Needing the same Stability perks as the Grasp to really reach its potential, the Psi Alba is another example of a weapon archetype that is really under-represented in the current Legendary weapon crop, but it can also be extremely potent in the right hands. Reflex is the best sight option, for a boost to the already decent base Aim Assist.

Hand Cannons

Mid-Impact

Mos Azoth IV

  • Pros – Above average Range and Mag Size.
  • Cons – Very low Stability and Reload Speed. Average Aim Assist.
  • Time-to-Kill: 0.86s (1 crit shot and 2 body shots)

Recommended Perks:

  • Column 1 – SureShot IS/TrueSight IS
  • Column 2 – Rangefinder, Eye of the Storm, Life Support, Outlaw
  • Column 3 – Send It/Smallbore, Reinforced Barrel, Explosive Rounds, Hand Loaded

If you haven’t gotten yourself a god-rolled Eyasluna, Finnala’s, etc. yet, then Mos Azoth might not be a terrible stop gap. Guaranteed to come with the much sought-after SureShot IS sight, it also benefits from being able to roll Rangefinder and Send It, which will give you a nice boost to Range with very little downside. You won’t be able to hit the max Range cap for HCs, but you could still do pretty nicely. Eye of the Storm is also something interesting I’d like to focus on more with HCs, as I think it may end up being a good counter for the ghost bullets issue that continues to seemingly plague them
