Hello again Guardians! We’ve had an exciting day today, with all the new footage and aspects we’ve learned about the game. However, there are still some things left to be analyzed and speculated upon and thank god there is, otherwise I would be out of a job! (Kidding, this is volunteer work, I just love you guys.) Let’s talk DESTINY.
So I’m going to analyze the latest gameplay video “The Devils Lair” but I’m only going to go over the stuff that you might’ve missed, (no one needs an analyst pointing out all the obvious.) I’ll provide some screen shots and also links to gfy’s that will show you a clip of what I’m talking about without having to make you go and find it yourself. Let’s begin!
One of the first things we see is the world(s) map. I believe this is what The Director is supposed to be. Also, if you look carefully under the Earth text, you will see “Director Online” as it pans into the Earth map. We also see something to the right of Earth called what I assume to be “crucible.” Is that a PvP hub?
Soon after, we get to see some gameplay. The first interesting thing I noticed was the Hunter and his throwing knife ability. What’s interesting about this part is that, as the Hunter throws the knife, his melee ability box on his hotbar on the bottom left flashes then goes dark. What’s even more interesting, is that, soon after, the Hunter does a standard knifing melee, but the ability box still flashes. This leads me to believe that special melee’s are activated when you simply use the melee button. When it’s on cool down, if you hit the melee button, your Guardian will do a simple knife attack. When it’s ready to use again, the next melee you do will be your special melee.
Next, we see that a Guardian can summon their vehicle in certain places, and in other places they cannot. What this depends on, I’m unsure of, considering it already seems like you can summon your vehicle in pretty tight spaces.
After that, the next thing I noticed was this Titan rushing into a shoulder bump. What’s interesting to note is that this ability didn’t use up any ability bars or super bar. So is it a weapon/armor ability? Imbued class ability? And does it simply not have a cool down? So many questions!
I have two things to mention for this next one. We see a possible achievement/challenge pop up on the left called “Death’s Dance.” What the Guardian did was shoot a fallen in the shoulder, then popped one in his skull. I think the reaction they do after getting hit with the first bullet could be similar to a dance…a DEATH’S dance.
Also, I can’t seem to understand what the 2x means, next to the super bar. It seems to come out at the most random of times, usually right when a Guardian has killed something, but not always. It also gets up to 3x later in the video. Most peculiar.
That’s a funny dance move you got thur.
Next, we see a Hunter use their ghost gun ability from start to finish. What I notice here is that the super bar (gold bar) is depleting, but the Hunter also now has only 3 shots to use, even though he had much more ammo beforehand. So the ghost gun ability has a time limit and ammo limit. However, it’s likely that either or both will be upgradable.
This next one is, to me, the most important find. In this next part, we see a Hunter throw their knife, have their ability bar deplete and then fully recharge instantly. The same for the grenade he uses right after. You can tell from my data from earlier that, that wasn’t happening before. The only difference this time around, was that the knife throw was the killing blow, as well as the grenade attack. So does the Hunter have this ability? Is it a weapon/armor ability? Race? Or is it just part of the game? More on that in a moment. Also, It’s also worth mentioning another possible achievement/challenge thing pops up on the left called “Chain reaction.”
Let’s throw shit and then throw more shit
The very next thing we see is the Titan rushing into a tiger knee, and again, his hotbar is stagnant. But as soon as he Falcon Punches™ the fallen, his melee ability box is depleted. It’s the killing blow and it doesn’t automatically recharge his melee ability. So now we at least know that the Hunters ability to do that is not for everyone. But we still don’t know if it’s gear related, class related, or race related.
This one a lot of you probably noticed, but then some of you may not have. We get to see what teleporting looks like from first person. I for one was stoked to see this, as the teleporting is my personal favorite of the three vertical moves. Fast, effective, and sexy.
Pretending to be Night Crawler
The last thing I noticed, was something in the kill box. On the bottom left, it says “Respawn in [countdown].” Now, is it saying that you must respawn within that amount of time? Or is it saying that you will automatically respawn once the timer is up? If so, where?
I didn’t notice anything too out of the ordinary after that. I hope I revealed at least one thing to you that you didn’t notice before. If I didn’t, then hats off to you! Either way, I can’t wait to hear more about Destiny in the days to come, which apparently will be very soon! (Destiny Week on Playstation Access and Urk mentioning a Tower reveal sometime before, at or around E3) The news drought is over! Drink and sup your hearts delight! Till next time, brave Guardians.
P.S. Our forum guy Ryan found this video from Datto Does Destiny. His analysis is spot on, and points out a lot of things I missed (I still had a few that he missed, :P) but regardless it’s a very good watch if you haven’t seen it.
