The Dark Below & House of Wolves DLC packs were OK, but they didn’t blow anyone away, and restricting DLC content behind the $20 was just too much for a lot of people. Bungie’s confirmed that going forward, at least for the foreseeable Y2 future, TTK will be dominated by free events from the Live team.
“The Live Team is fully in charge of Year Two.”

Next Big Purchase: Destiny 2?
All signs point to the next big purchase being in 2016 for “Destiny 2” – that game will bring your characters/items forward, and reportedly has a Raid on Mars:
[…] new public space on Mars, complete with strikes and a new raid. That entire last Mars chunk was later cut and passed to Activision subsidiary High Moon Studios to develop for Destiny’s full-sized 2016 sequel.
As you can read in Kotaku’s full article, “People who worked on Destiny rave about the European Dead Zone and the raid on Mars, both of which may be added to the game in the coming months and years.”
We talked with Derek Carroll and Jerry Hook at PSX, and they made it clear that live events was their future for Year Two. They gave insights into how the Live team is evolving and how they’re updating the game we play.
Eurogamer talked with Derek as well and confirmed that we’d be seeing content, just might not know when it’s coming…
[…] by design, the idea is to have these events which are surprises – so we can understand why players on the one hand want to have their lives mapped out for the next year.
Certainly, players can expect new events and new content throughout the next year, although we’re not really telegraphing that.
Rather than doing “monolithic DLC packs,” Derek says that providing free events will allow everybody who’s an owner of TTK to enjoy the content.
Emote Changes?
Also, the way Emote equipping works might be changed in the coming year! Derek confessed that Bungie is “looking at expanding that and maybe rethinking how emotes are done in the game.”

Small Paid DLC or Free Events?
That’s the primary question I’d like to see answered in the comments. In a perfect world, there’d be enough people and resources to create both, so that anyone who wanted to also pay for more content could do so. The guarantee of free events is appealing, it’s just the matter of Bungie fixing some small issues.
For example, Datto brought up a great point in a recent Fireteam Chat podcast, in which he basically said that the Record Book should have been free, but that the additional missions/rewards could have been behind the 1k Silver.
Free Events are new after all, so it’s not surprising that they haven’t perfected the formula when it hasn’t even been fully realized yet. If you have any suggestions about how SRL can improve, share your thoughts down below! 🙂
What are you guys hoping to see in Destiny 2? New places to explore on Mars? Black Garden Raid?
Hey. 2016 is gonna be great. We're working on stuff. Fun stuff, that's still in development. SRL is live today, though! We hope you dig it!
