Exotic Leg Armor Review

Published on: Jan 31, 2015 @ 18:07

The Exotic boots in Destiny are pretty underwhelming, even the new ones coming in the House of Wolves. The leg armor really needs an additional perk so they’ll be more useful.

We also have a full review for each of Destiny’s Exotic helmets for the Titan, Hunter, and Warlock.

We’ve reviewed each of the Exotic chest pieces and gauntlets as well.

Heavy Ammo

Before we get into the individual reviews, since both of the boots have the Heavy Weapon Ammo perk, lets first talk about how much this actually helps out.

With the Heavy Weapon Ammo perk, these weapons have the following reserve ammo:

You can see more information about how heavy weapons are affected in this Reddit post.

Mk. 44 Stand Asides (Striker)mk 44 stand asides exotic

  • Strength
  • Heavy Weapon Ammo – Increases the amount of Heavy Weapon ammunition you can carry.
  • Be Somewhere Else – Increases the duration Shoulder Charge remains active.

Review

The Mk. 44 Stand Asides, cosmetically similar to Ruin Wings, are an OK choice for any PvP-focused Striker who enjoys getting up close and personal with the enemy.

Often you’ll find that the window for shoulder charge is too short, having to plan your movement around getting that shoulder charge kill. These boots will extend the time it’s available by about 3 seconds, increasing it to 8 seconds from 5.

These will enable you to run a bit longer, and the high Strength will ensure a quick followup Storm Fist.

Use the Transfusion talent to further aid you on the field with health regeneration after a kill with Shoulder Charge.

If you need a PvP-specific Exotic for your Striker, give these a shot. Keep in mind that if you’ve already got an armor piece that increases heavy weapon ammo, it’s not going to stack with these boots.

We don’t recommend using these in PvE.

Radiant Dance Machinesradiant dance machines exotic boots

  • Strength
  • Heavy Weapon Ammo – Increases the amount of Heavy Weapon ammunition you can carry.
  • The Dance – You move more quickly while aiming your weapon. Dancing speed increase by 200%!

Review

These boots are specific for a certain type of player. Some may find these helpful if they value quicker movement, but Exotic helms, gauntlets, or chests would be a better option most of the time.

Radiant Dance Machines are built around being more mobile while aiming. For a high mobility build, they can be a solid choice for a Hunter that’s trying to avoid crossfire.

“The Dance” perk won’t give you a huge increase in speed, but it is helpful enough to build around. Your ADS movement speed will be almost doubled from what’s normal.

Combine these boots with the MIDA Multi-Tool and high agility, and it’ll be like floating on air! If you want to further increase your speed, be sure to use the “Path Unknown” and “Way of the Drifter” talents.

Similar to the Mk. 44 Stand Asides, these will increase your heavy ammo as well, so coupling them with a machine gun in PvP will be your best bet.

The Strength on these boots seem out of place and obviously don’t help out with their of the perks.

These boots are for a very niche crowd, and will be most beneficial in the Crucible. If you are looking for a new toy to play with in PvP, they’re worth trying, but generally not useful enough to warrant consistent use.

We don’t recommend using these in PvE, since you won’t find much benefit from moving faster while aiming.

The boots look awesome, but they feel like a vanity item.

Score

PvE: 3/10

PvP: 6.8/10
